Moorweg
This hiking trail takes you to the Moor ground station in Kayhausermoor, where the moor corpse was found, which is exhibited in the Natural History Museum in Oldenburg, and to the Engelsmeer nature reserve. In addition, along the way you can see where the moor comes from, which is used in the spa clinic for mud treatments.
Distance 9.2 km
A good start to this hiking trail can be found at Scholjegerdes Hof to the left of Kayhauser Kamp. On the route past green fields and meadows, along the railroad tracks, cross them at the end to the right and then hike into nature. Here the Mühlenweg leads you into the nature reserve "Engelsmeer", which you can go around in spring and autumn. Along the route you will come to the sign “Moorleichenfund”. The body of an 11-13-year-old boy was found here in 1922, to whom terrible things happened here more than 2000 years ago (more information about this horrific crime is available at the local listening station!). You can feel immediately that you are getting closer to the moor, as the ground becomes much softer. If you follow the “Moorpad” sign, you will reach the Moor ground station. On the left side you can take a look at a mud pool. Here moor is dug up and transported to the Zwischenahner Kurklinik, where it is diluted with water and used as a mud bath. Now the path from nature leads you back to the center of Bad Zwischenahn.
